Possible Future Update

Hey hey, haven't posted here in a while! Been busy with a lot, but I've also been thinking about completely redesigning the website as well lately. This was fun as my first big website project, but I've learned some new things since then and I'd like to redesign the site eventually. I also just feel like I haven't quite captured the "home" feeling I've wanted from having a personal site just yet, so I'm hoping the next big version will feel closer to that. I'm not sure when this'll kick off or how to lay out the site yet, but hoping to get it done some time later this year. Anyways I just wanted to drop this quick update here while updating the sprite collection, until next time!

sick and tired, also wilds

hi, dropping by for another irregular update. i'm extremely tired and unmotivated right now. didn't get the best sleep last night, and it's not the first time i've had few hours, but i'm definitely feeling the sleep deprivation today. wanted to shout this out to the void, so i figured here would be a good place.

but yeah, been trying to take it easier today. finally got wilds a couple days ago though. wasn't able to play much since i got it, but i was able to get a couple hours in today. to be honest, i still feel a little lost with some of the mechanics (this is my first MH), but it's been pretty fun so far. one thing i appreciate is that is it seems to still embrace the more over-the-top aspects you tend to see in a lot of japanese media, despite this game seemingly trying to appeal more to the western audience. i really love the palicoes, they rule.

anyways hoping to get to bed early. been trying to develop healthier habits this year including sticking to an actual bed time. until next time...

Playing Cave Story

Hey hey! Haven't wrote here in a while. Was thinking about doing a "Week 2" update last Friday but that didn't end up panning out. I will admit, now that this version of the site's complete, my little indie web phase has gone back into hibernation. But I still want to update this site beyond just adding new sprites! So I figure I'll try to blog a little more here.

Recently I've been playing Cave Story after having it on my backlog on the longest time. Been interested in playing it since I saw it on the Wii Shop Channel way back. I did buy it during a sale last year but didn't play it until just a few days ago. I just recently beat the game with the normal ending (after initially playing up to the bad ending, as I didn't realize there were multiple endings in the first place), and now I've recent and I'm currently trying to get the true ending.

My thoughts aren't too complete yet because I still want to find out what happens in the true ending, but I really enjoyed what I played within the normal route. The gameplay's really tight, boss battles were a fun challenge, and I liked the characters and setting. Especially Balrog, love that dude. Of course I have to mention the soundtrack too (and sometimes lack thereof.) It really carries the atmosphere of the game, and endeared me even more to it. I remember hearing the title screen from way back so some of it is already nostalgic for me, and I imagine the same will be the case for the other tracks. Moonsong especially.

Since the weekend's already passed, I won't be able to binge through the game for a while but I look forward to getting to the true ending!

ps: i'm also getting monster hunter: wilds soon, so i might drop some thoughts on that at some point.

Version 1 Finally Complete!

At long last, I'm finally finished with all the pages! Well all the ones besides this one, which I'm currently writing in. If you've been lurking around and following the site for a while now, you'll notice I've changed page ideas multiple times and ended up cutting four pages from the final list. I had a lot of creative blocks after I finished setting up the layout and I also realized the scope for the site was getting too big, so I decided to simplify things. If anything, I think keeping things simple was a key lesson I learned from this whole project.

I had a LOT of ideas, and really wanted to cram everything in here. But I realized it was only prolonging the process and giving me a lot of extra work that wasn't necessary at this stage of the site. If you were lurking in the chatbox, you'll notice I was conflicted on the site layout and also agonized on the home page earlier. I had literal headaches trying to figure out how to readjust everything, and it was already at a point where it was becoming unproductive, so keeping things simple was definitely for the better.

Glad I'm finally done now though. With this version of the site at least. I still have some plans as you can see from the to-do list that's currently in my about page, but I'll get to those eventually. For now, I'm just relieved to finally be here at this checkpoint. Also really happy I've finally been able to make this place happen. Always wanted to make a website as a kid, and I've finally been able to make that real after all these years. Gonna have a lot of fun using this place as my little outlet, now that the foundations have been set.

I also don't think I've ever actually written a blog before, so that's another first. I actually wish I had this set up as I was working on the site, but I had this weird insistence on doing this page last for some reason lol. Whatever the case, glad I have a place I can dump my thoughts in now. (besides the chatbox haha). Hopefully future posts aren't this long, but I guess that's the point of this being a rambling corner. That's it for now though!
